The “Rebozo” is a device that has always generated my great interest and enthusiasm for its versatility and its history… because is part of my culture… of my people… I have used it for childbirth support in hundreds of births with outstanding results.
The techniques demonstrated during Rebozo Workshop will help to stimulate attendants to use it and provide more ideas in the search for better and healthier options for women in the marvelous and dynamic act of giving birth, caring for their babies and have a healthy postpartum experience.
My source of inspiration and teachers – traditional midwives in Mexico – have used the Rebozo for hundreds of years to comfort pregnant women when in pain or discomfort, as well as to help the unborn infant into the most appropriate position for an easy birth. I will share these series of “rebozo techniques” to be used during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, in addition to my own experience using a rebozo while I give support to childbearing women.
During the workshop, I will demonstrate several ways to include the rebozo as a resource for physical and emotional support for childbearing women, in combination with light and deep touch, aromatherapy, acupressure, positions for labor and birth as well as ways to carry a baby and heal postpartum.
1- Identify cultural issues and traditions that impact women’s inner wisdom to birth their babies.
2- Honor the Mexican Rebozo and other cultural devices to increase women’s confidence to tap into their inner wisdom.
3- Define characteristics and advantages of the rebozo techniques to easy pregnancy discomfort due to awkward baby’s positions.
4- Demonstrate and practice ways to use the rebozo during pregnancy to comfort and relax women.
5- Demonstrate rebozo techniques to facilitate progress when babies position is delaying birth.
6- Demonstrate rebozo techniques to facilitate free pelvis to help baby’s progress and descend during birth.
7- Define characteristics and advantages to use the rebozo techniques to deal with pain during labor and birth.
8- Demonstrate and practice rebozo techniques to stimulate senses in a gentle way, in order to relax laboring women and deal with pain in labor.
9- Demonstrate and practice the use of the rebozo to facilitate birth during second stage.
10- Discuss ways to incorporate the rebozo in water births.
11- Demonstrate how to carry a baby during early parenting, enhance mother-infant attachment and stimulation techniques for the newborn.
12- Demonstrate the Traditional Midwifery “Closing Ceremony” to integrate birth experience.
